Some people need a Brain Transplant!

What I saw today as I hopped on the bus today to go to uni, was definitely NOT cool. There was a pair of Muslim girls (obviously so) who got on the bus before I did. The driver called one of them back and proceeded to humiliate her.. and rightly so, since she had tried to pass off a doctored bus pass as being valid. Serves her right, it does.

What such Muslims don't recognise.. is that Muslims are under watch. You do something wrong, it reflects badly on the rest of them. You get what I mean? Do the rest of the Muslims a favour and spare them.

The PC's Dying.

As I lie on my bed typing away on my laptop.. Here's something for the future: I'm sure the PC is going to die some day, and very soon! Anyway, haven't been around for a very long time as usual, but all's good hamdulillah :)

LOTR-athon

Guess what I did on Saturday night all the way onto Sunday:

11:30 pm: Inserted a CD of Lord of The Rings - The Fellowship of The Ring in my laptop.
12:00 am: Waiting for my dormmates to join me for the movie.
01:00 am: My dormmates join me. Still watching movie. Having some Mango Malai (awesome easy dessert).
02:30 am: My first dormmate leaves.
02:45 am: Second dormmate leaves, she's too sleepy to watch it.
04:00 am: Movie Ends. [ I figure.. if I fall asleep now, I'll probably miss my Fajr prayers ]. Insert CD of LOTR - The Two Towers
06:00 am: Prayer break [ Lol. Weird combination, eh? Prayers and movies? ]
06:30 am: Resume movie.
08:30 am: Go to sleep. [Finally.]
01:30 pm: Wake up. Have a sudden urge to watch the third installment of Lord of the Rings. Don't have the 3rd movie on CD.
04:15 pm: I'm at the cinema, watching LOTR - The Return of the King. Alone. Not really, I've got a pair of Chinese girls on my right, and an irritating English woman on the left who keeps on sniggering throughout the movie until I start giving her dirty looks.

See what a loser I am? Going to watch a movie all alone by meself? First time watched a movie without anyone accompanying me..
I don't think it's going to be the last time though.

The Queen is an Engineer!

YES! Finally. (al-Hamdulillah) I'm a CHEMICAL ENGINEER NOW!! Attended my graduation recently, and I'm back in Dubai now. I was just wondering, all you graduates out there.. when you graduated with your degree, what did it feel like? In my case, it still hasn't sunk in. It doesn't really feel like I'm an engineer.

Oh, and if you've been wondering where I disappeared off to, ermm.. I've been in quite a mess these past few months let's say.. nope, nothing to do with the law.. but if you'll please excuse me.

Now that you know, I need some graduation gifts. Thank you.

Panic!

After two whole weeks of stuffing my face with double whoppers, pizzas and loadsuv coke, I realize that I haven't studied for my exams, neither have I completed my assignments nor have I done anything constructive.
Felt good, y'know *wink*.

But then, I'm a whole tuh-wenty-one, now it's about time I did something with my life! Here's a list of stuff I want to do:

(1) Start up a radio station here in Dubai. (Nope, not your usual Music Station!)
(2) Get a decent Chem Eng'g degree (Ermmm....)
(3) Do my masters and leave England FOREVER.
(4) Get Married.
(5) Raise cheerful, lovely and really good kids.
(6) Write a book.

I think I better go back to studying my chem eng'g notes.

Mmmmm-MMMMM!!!!

Did you know that one thing I really look forward to apart from meeting my family after a whole two and a half months? The Double WHOPPER!!

DOUBLE WHOPPERS, mexican Shawarmas and Kentucky Fried Chicken! Yeah I'm a sucker for food, and I've been dying to get my hands on the BK Double Whopper these 2 'n a half months. To date, this past one week and 3 days I've been in Dubai, I've had 5 Mexican Shawarmas (a spicy version of your regular shawarma-yummi-licious), one Double Whopper, one Chicken Royale, and oh yeah loads of my mom's lovely home-cooked food.

I'm so lucky all fast food's halal in Dubai and I don't have to suffer for 3 days a week on bland vegetarian food.

BLISS. The plane back to Manchester's going to be 3 kilos heavier. At least.

DOOBUY!!!

Yes, I'm back again. Back in wonderful Dubai (to all those who ask me what I'm doing in the Middle East during while a war's being waged in the backyard, I really don't care. I missed my family.) I missed my blog (and you guys too!), haven't checked my email for ages either.

You shall hear from me more often now.

Applause for Robin Cook!

The Queen of Arabia can't just sit back and watch while Arabia is threatened, can she? Darn. (Sometimes I wish I WAS the Queen.)

We've all known for some time now that the majority of the British public opposes the imminent war, and has tried to do everything, from volunteering as human shields to staging mass demonstrations like the one on the 15th of February, which is all the more remarkable because they haven't resorted to unnecessary violence.
Some superpowers should probably take a lesson or two from them.

I don't know what's going to happen, and I wonder if my opinion, or the collective opinion of the British public counts, but this dude certainly wields some clout and furthermore, definitely has the guts.
[For those too lazy to follow up the link, Robin Cook resigned yesterday over failure of the government's policy on Iraq]

Three cheers for Robin Cook!

P.S. Don't you think an Iraqi life is as precious as yours or mine, or an American's or a Brit's? Just a thought, which's probably been bothering quite a few of us.

Girl's Night Out

Oh my god! I'm home (it's kinda late) but I've had one of the most amazing times ever! After a nine-to-four at work, all bleary-eyed from data entry, I went out with my mates for a tango performance (*sigh* made me all dreamy) and THEN for yummi-licious grilled chicken with lemon 'n herb at Nando's and THEN.. off to the cinema with Sadaf and Eunice for a romantic comedy!

I didn't think too much of the comedy but it was fun seeing Sadaf and Eunice so drunk with love after the movie. If you were there, you'd see Sadaf & Eunice hugging each other through the romantic scenes (and might just get the wrong impression, no, they ARE straight). They're probably up in their rooms right now dreaming about falling in love *sigh*. As for me, I think Only You was far better than this movie, I can still remember being drunk with love after watching it, ON VIDEO!

I'd love to tell them to stop dreaming, especially Eunice, who couldn't stop hugging a pillar in our dorms after the movie, dreaming about her wedding, but hey, maybe we do have a chance. :)

P.S. Why do I always end up speaking about love and marriage all the time?
Note to Myself: Let's see how you feel AFTER you're married.

P.P.S. I LOVE Eunice & Sadaf (and the rest of you, in case you felt left out).

Heartache

Oh God, that really hurt! I meant Pakistan's loss against India in the World Cup!
Anyway, have to give credit to the Indians, Sachin was absolutely amazing!

On a lighter note, here's an edited conversation I had with a guy at the International Evening held in our dorms yesterday. I was at the Zimbabwe stall with my Zimbabwean friend and Pakistanis, so much so that it looked like a Zimbabistan stall. Here goes:

Me: Hi! This is the Zimbabwe stall.
Him: Ah! Zambia.
Me: No, Zimbabwe.
Him: Oh.

[I poke my Zimabwean friend to get up and explain about the stall but she just refuses.]

Me: I'm sorry, don't really know much about Zimbabwe.
Him (still hanging around) : Oh, what's your name by the way
Me: Samia.
Him: Hey my name's the same as yours I'm Samir.
Me: You're Samir, I'm Samia, they're both different.
Him: No it's the same, you're Samir, I'm Samir.
Me (grinning and giving up hope): Oh okay.

That was the end of our conversation. He still stayed at the stall smiling at me and left a few minutes later, after which I was subjected to torture from my friends, being accused of seducing the guy from Azerbaijan.

A Moment of Reflection

I went to an inter-faith debate yesterday with a couple of my friends and it was enlightening! It did get me thinking... I'm not sure how this connects but I got to know today that one of my friends' parents passed away in a car accident last week and I just wonder if I've got my priorities right.

Life's short. And are we, and am I, walking down the right path?

P.S. I'm not usually this incoherent.
P.P.S. GO PAKISTAN!!!! Next match is on Saturday, Pakistan vs England :)
P.P.P.S. I've got a larger flag on my window now.
