The Voyeurism Phenomenon

I just realised: Earth's been hijacked by voyeurs. Big brother, Temptation Island, The Osbournes, Survivor, Blind Date, you name it, we've watched it.

"Something strange is happening in television," said the cover story in the June 26 [2000] issue of Time magazine. "The rise of VTV, or voyeur television."

Apparently The Osbournes is "...THE most watched and highest rated show in the history of MTV" and the Survivor series has become such a cult phenomenon that "More than 23 million people [...] were watching "Survivor" in June [2000]" compelling viewers to switch on their TV sets during the usual dead time in summer.

And how is it affecting us?

Take my blog for example. You know me. You know what my wall planner looks like. You know what I did last weekend.

And then, there's those girls down the corridor. They (believe me or not) leave their doors wide open, allowing people to take a very good look at the insides of their not-very-neat-n-tidy rooms for a considerable part of the day. They Love being Watched. They probably think they're the 'babes' from Survivor.

Anyway, have a look at what usually sits on top of my chest of drawers. *Wink*
